The Sonshine Patch Christian Preschool began its ministry in September 1984. We are a Christian preschool serving children of many different denominations. We provide social, intellectual, emotional, physical and spiritual opportunities for each child’s growth. We are state-licensed, and our curriculum meets all of the early learning standards for preschool.
We have two separate age appropriate programs for children. Our Socialization and Basic Skills program is for children who are three-years-old by September 1. Our Getting Ready for Kindergarten program is for children who are four-years-old by September 1 and will be attending Kindergarten the following year.
Our program is based on learning through doing and positive reinforcement. We seek to make your child’s first school experiences fun and exciting, believing that it is laying the groundwork for future school years.
We want to help children to see Jesus in their everyday lives and see the importance of making Him the center of their lives. Our goal at Sonshine Patch is that we will all allow the “Son” to shine from within our hearts.

Our Socialization and Basic Skills Class is an excellent introduction to school. It provides an important transitional step for children from the home environment to school. In a nurturing environment, providing love and attention for each child, children are guided through basic school skills. These include listening and following directions in a group, taking turns in play and speaking, making transitions in orderly and positive fashion and generally achieving in a group setting.
Children are provided a variety of play opportunities in which to enjoy positive social experiences of solving interaction problems and sharing and taking turns. Sharing God’s love is emphasized as a method of interacting problems. We use positive reinforcement to encourage children to model Christ in their behavior. When children experience conflicts, we gently show them tools to deal more positively with situations. This enables them to learn positive interaction for future issues instead of only the immediate situation.
A strong emphasis is placed a cognitive and listening skills as well as following directions in a group and individually. Oral language development and usage is stimulated through many fun activities, reinforcing learning and school as an enjoyable experience.
Children are encouraged to develop independence in self-help skills. Emphasis is placed on helping children learn to button, zip and do for themselves what they are able with assistance as needed. This creates a positive self-esteem in the child as they are empowered to be more independent.
Other skills are introduced through game situations in music and movement, fingerplays, flannel board and art exploration. Both structured and free-choice activities are included in daily plans in a fun-filled, positive and stimulating atmosphere.

The Getting Ready for Kindergarten Class prepares children in readiness for Kindergarten through use of Christian principles. It is a priority of our curriculum that learning about letters and other readiness skills be fun. All areas of our curriculum are using the puppet, its sound and its Christian concepts for the week. Math concepts may be taught while counting “appetizing apples” as they fall from a apple tree or compare sizes while learning ordinal numbers. Songs, finger plays and stories about apples may be combined with apple printing as an art activity or making our own apple muffin snack in a cooking activity.
In addition, a large variety of learning centers are set up each week for the children to explore. These include many curriculum aspects such as science (learning about mold, magnets or a magnifying glass), sensory (playing in popcorn in the sensory table), motor coordination (trying to throw a beanbag in hanging overalls), fine motor (cutting out the letter E and gluing eggshells on it) and many more.
An integral part of this class is the unique “Lovable Letter Puppets.” Each letter of the alphabet has a huggable furry puppet with a special feature that reinforces the sound of the letter. Each of the letter puppets is used in coordination with the preschool’s thematic method of teaching. For example, Lovable Letter Puppet R and her “red ribbons” compare the gifts we give to others to the precious gift God gave us in His Son, Jesus. Miss A and her ”appetizing apples” teach children to thank God for all He has given us. Poor Mr. H had “happy hair” which made him fall in a hole and no one seemed to hear his call. He learns, along with the boys and girls, that Jesus always hears us and never forsakes us.
