“I pity the fool!” Come on; admit it. You said it with Mr. T’s voice in your head. It’s hard to hear that phrase and not picture the scene from Rocky III where Clubber Lang says those menacing words. Thirty-five years later and it’s still almost immediately recognizable. Yet, more than just some catchphrase about crossing the wrong guy and getting pummeled, I’ve come to see that with our hearts full of sin, we are but fools most to be pitied.
Wisdom remains something that we know we need in our lives, but obtaining it seems a bit more elusive than we would like. Yet, the beautiful truth of the Gospel is that we no longer need to be pitied. We no longer need to remain the fool. We have a better message. The Wisdom of God has entered into our world to save us from the foolishness of our ways.
