In Luke 6:38, we read the words of Christ that say, “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” It is quite possible that you have read and heard those very words many times and missed the truth of what God’s Word is communicating. Luke 6:38 is not the motive for us to give, but the reward for giving with the right heart. There is a critical difference between the two and God does not want you to mistake one with the other. God is not encouraging greed or selfishness—quite the opposite.
Just Give. Thanks. is a straight-forward series on generosity designed to bless your life with the gifts that come from aligning our hearts and actions with God’s heart for our actions. We realize that if people do not learn about money in the church, where are they going to learn about it? If we are going to cultivate a thriving relationship with God, we need to invite God’s Word to speak to us about all matters. As we prepare to give thanks to God for all that we have, let us be open that he may have even more for us that only comes as we give with the right heart.
