Purpose

As the staff and leadership of New Life Assembly of God’s student ministries, our mission is to see each student cultivating thriving relationships with God, family, and others through intentional, age-specific discipleship. We want to see a generation that will worship the Father with their lifestyle, accept the Son as their personal savior, and live empowered by the Holy Spirit to further God’s Kingdom! In order to see this mission accomplished, our goal is to live mission-minded together.

Matthew 28:18-20 says, “Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

A New Life Youth Leader...

Has Relationship
We believe that God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to the earth to save us and teach us how to live (John 3:16). Putting God first creates the opportunity to be used by Him in the lives of those we love and to whom we minister. Therefore, a NLY leader must first recognize Jesus Christ as their personal savior.

Has Authority
After we have come to the saving knowledge of Christ, the empowerment of the Holy Spirit then gives us authority (Luke 10:19). As a leader of young men and women, we are called to pray together as a team and be diligently praying for them on our own. We get the privilege to speak into their lives and pour into them. We will encourage, be uplifting, and speak life over them.

Will Teach
We have the opportunity to teach truth and life (Colossians 3:16)! We must also teach through our actions. These students will be learning from how you represent yourself—this is the best form of teaching.

Will Serve
Serving one another with love is the greatest example that Jesus exemplified to His twelve disciples. Our goal and main focus during youth ministry services and events is to give these young men and women our time, energy, love, patience, direction, and, especially, use our own specific spiritual gifts to edify the body of Christ (Mark 10:45).

Price

In order to cultivate a youth ministry that is truly thriving we strive to build trust and consistency within our church body. Our four areas of purpose also come with personal sacrifice and commitment.

Relationship
We strive for a growing relationship with Christ. This means that you are actively involved in church attendance. “Serve one, attend one” means that if you are serving during one Sunday morning service you are also attending one within the same day. We strive for healthy families that are practicing healthy boundaries, and we also strive for relationship with others. Finding accountability and connection to other church members is important for unity.

Authority
In having this authority there comes many responsibilities; living a holy and pure life (Romans 6:4) means having a healthy relationship with Jesus, your family, and others so that you can be used to lead. We want to be the best example we can be to these students, so they can see the truth that is taught first hand.

Teach
There must be preparation we put into this ministry. If you are asked to lead a small group then that is a unique opportunity handed to you that will require prayer, cultivating a welcoming atmosphere within your group, reading over the service order given to you before service every Wednesday, and taking initiative to build relationships outside of your small group time in the service.

Serve
Serving can come in many forms in this specific ministry, but no matter what that looks like we choose to sacrifice our time and comfort to give of ourselves for the mission. It could look like helping set up chairs, cleaning up trash, picking kids up for youth group, or a number of tasks, but they are all serving and benefiting the ministry God is doing here!

Plan

We desire to see each leader using their specific God-given gifts to help further the Kingdom through NLY and here is our plan to help you get there:

Must be in agreement with the tenets of faith of NLAG.
Be a member or a regular attendee of NLAG, having attended NLAG for at least three consecutive months.
Complete this ministry involvement application.
Be loyal to the ministries of NLAG.
Be faithful to your assigned position. Showing up at least 15 minutes before a service or event allows for us to feel prepared as a team.
Follow us on social media. This will keep you up-to-date with weekly services and events and then we can follow you, too.

Attend all meetings and our annual leadership retreat.
Be faithful to attend youth services: Wednesday evening from 6:30pm-8:00pmand Sunday morning 9:00am and 10:45am. We have a “serve one, attend one” mentality at NLAG. This means if you are serving in one another of ministry outside of the service specifically on a Sunday morning, we expect that you attend the other service as a way to stay connected with the church body.
Keep communication open with the team; if you can’t fulfill a commitment last minute that’s okay! We just want to know.
Be mindful of your appearance. Not only is it important for us to be neat in how we appear, but we also have a responsibility through social media to exemplify Christ in our pictures and posts.
Be committed to accountability and confidentiality. There is a confidence we need to maintain through this ministry with the young men and women we help and counsel as well as with one another.

Men will counsel young men and women will counsel young women; If a student of the opposite gender is seeking you out either in person or on social media bring another leader of the opposite gender in on it with you! This communicates to our families at NLAG that we set up healthy boundaries in this ministry.
We should not find ourselves alone with a student—whether that’s driving them home or even meeting them somewhere in public. Invite along more students or another leader!
If a student comes to you with signs of harm to themselves or someone else, notify a pastor immediately.
If there is something that you don’t feel you can handle, talk with a pastor and we can figure it out together!

Ministry Teams of New Life Youth

Hospitality

Our hospitality team creates an open and friendly atmosphere by greeting at youth services and events and keeps in touch with old and new members through mail/social media. This team helps instruct students to check-in before each service and event and also helps in the administration and planning of events throughout the year.

Worship

In everything we do we are to bring God praise (Psalm 150)! The purpose of this team is to teach teenagers how to worship using instruments and how to lead a congregation of people in worship through music. Your specific musical skills will be used to teach the teenagers leading the worship bands. We want to create an atmosphere of authentic worship to God—not just in our musical talents but also throughout our lives. Practice is from 5:30-6:00pm Wednesday evenings before service.

Fine Arts

Fine Arts is a student discipleship ministry through the Assemblies of God designed to help students discover, develop, and deploy their ministry gifts. Students will enter into a district festival and, potentially, a national-level competition where they can grow in their
artistic talents for God! It is an incredible opportunity that pushes students to get out of their comfort zone and really dive into ministry at an early age. We want to help kids grow by teaching, holding them accountable, and helping them with whatever they may need! If you are gifted in the arts this could be a unique opportunity to help teach and train our students.

Small Group

Small groups are how we connect with our students individually each week and help them to put their faith into action. As a leader of a small group you will be used to build relationship inside and outside of small group time throughout the week. It’s the small group leader’s job to help assimilate new students, encourage core students to speak out, and provide a welcoming and inclusive environment where they can learn the Gospel at their level. We have small groups every Wednesday night as a part of our weekly youth service as well as ongoing small groups developed to help students connect in a setting outside of our church building.

Speed the Light Cafe

All of the proceeds of our café go directly for Speed the Light, a mission’s organization through the Assemblies of God that provides vehicles and communicative tools to help equip missionaries to speed the light of the Gospel around the world! We sell candy, soda, chips, and other things from time to time. The café is only open 30 minutes before the service starts.
